Which of the Rhetorical Appeals are employed?
The article's primary focus is on the use of logos. Using data and logic, the author argues that achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 is a good idea since it will lead to the creation of half a million new jobs, an improved energy infrastructure, and the avoidance of hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths (Cheung, 2020). Data, statistics, graphs, pertinent examples, and other forms of proof appropriate to the topic are all used throughout the essay to appeal to logos. Statistics on topics such as the increase in global temperatures and the output of carbon emissions by the United States are cited (Cheung, 2020). The effectiveness of the appeals to Ethos and Pathos is determined by the degree to which the reader values the discussed subject.
To what extent are these appeals effective?
In the article, the use of the rhetorical device Logos was effectively illustrated. The writing style and selection of supporting materials demonstrate the claims' validity. Trustworthy sources, including academic studies and in-depth interviews with industry insiders, have backed up all claims. Logos is an appeal to evidence, specifically numerical data and other hard facts (Grant, 2019).

How do you plan on using each rhetorical appeal for your paper?
While employing ethos, I would back up my claims with evidence from reliable sources and demonstrate that I have a firm grasp of the material. To use logos, I would compile and show evidence to back up my views. To employ pathos, I focus on the topic's ramifications for the reader, either on an individual or social level, to make an emotional appeal.

I think Helier Cheung used all three of the Rhetorical Appeals in his article. First, he showed his ethos as a writer. Then he used pathos to use Trumps words against himself. Lastly, he used logos to prove his stance.
To what extent are these appeals effective?
Cheung starts the article using pathos. He does so by pointing out inconsistencies in Trumps pasts public statements; specifically on twitter. Then he highlights how Trump was the President, and how he minimized, or denied, the existence climate change. Cheung then effectively using the pathos to strike an emotional nerve with his audience. By questioning what Trumps financial motives are for his stance on climate change, it can make the audience feel a bit jaded; being that the audience for this type of article would generally care about climate change prevention.
Secondly, by using credible written sources, and quoting interviews with reliable experts, he showed his audience that he was a trustworthy journalist. This was an effective use of ethos, and provides reassurance to the reader that the article is legit. Another effective use of ethos by Cheung, was using his sources to challenge, or explain, Trumps opinions and words. By interviewing Professors from Universities, such as Columbia and Harvard, they were able to identify how Trump was only interested in the topic of climate change, if it could benefit him financially or politically. The professors even go as far as to say that Trump doesn’t even understand the idea of climate change because his verbiage doesn’t translate that he does. This is effective because it makes Trump out to be an unreliable source.
Lastly, Cheung effectively uses logos by sharing credible data about the Republican party, global emission deregulation and earth temperatures. Cheung used a chart from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, that explained how the last 22 years of recorded history contained the top 20 hottest years ever. He did so to combat Trumps allusive comments about climate change, where he tries to equate climate change with clean water and air. Next, Cheung referenced how Trump administration as responsible for over a hundred factors of climate deregulation in his presidency term. This was effective because it contradicts Trumps claims that he cares about the environment and wants to make efforts to protect it. Lastly, the author used logos by suggesting that Trump would benefit from acknowledging the existence of climate change. Cheung uses voter statistics, that state over half of republican millennials believe in the existence of climate change, to emphasize his suggestion.
Where were the appeals ineffective?
I did not believe any of Cheung’s uses of rhetorical appeals were ineffective.

The audience for Cheung’s article is individuals who care about politics and the topic of climate change. I think the speech aligns well with his audience, because it uses all the rhetorical appeals to entice them. Cheung is cynical of Trumps stance on climate change. However, he doesn’t use his own opinions as fact to try to sway them.
How do you plan on using each of the rhetorical appeals for your paper?
The topic of my paper is about how the quality of public schools is declining.
Logos- I plan to use logos by suggesting methods to resolve issues, regarding school zoning guidelines, crippling infrastructures, and inadequate supplies of learning materials.
Pathos- I plan to use Pathos by including a story about my own experience, on my first day at a new (poor) school. The experience will emphasize how disheartening and uninspiring it can be at an underfunded school.
Ethos- I will implement ethos in my paper by having credibility as a former public school student and quoting educational professionals.
